The three stopovers
Southeastern Sicily
Accommodation Description
For your first stay, I suggest an old baglio – a former farmhouse turned into an elegant boutique hotel. Casa Vendicari is a charming retreat nestled in the heart of the Vendicari Nature Reserve, just a short walk from the sea.
Here, everything breathes nature and serenity: the scent of wild herbs, the salty breeze, the golden light of late afternoons. The 12 rooms, tastefully restored, blend exposed stone with natural tones.
In the vast garden, a saltwater pool invites you to unwind after a day at the beach or cycling through the reserve. And just nearby, Il Baglietto, the property’s restaurant, awaits you under the olive trees, serving simple, organic Sicilian cuisine – full of sunshine and flavour.
To see nearby
- The fascinating Baroque towns of Noto, Ragusa Ibla, Modica and Scicli.
- Last but not least… you are very close to the coast for a dip in the sea.
Southern Sicily
Accommodation Description
For your second stopover, we chose a well-known Sicilian wine producer built on a long agricultural tradition handed down from 1500 through 17 generations in the area between Sambuca di Sicilia and Menfi (Agrigento district). Here you will have the chance to visit one of the six cantines with various wines, including Nero d’Avola, Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah, and Grecanico.
And if you are curious to learn the traditional ancient Sicilian recipes, there is a cooking class waiting for you.
To see nearby
- The sea is just 4 km away. The fine and wild sand of Porto Palo di Menfi won 17 Blue Flags, an international reward for seaside resorts that meet criteria relating to sustainable land management.
- The archeological park of Selinunte and Segesta with its Greek theater.
- The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento.
- The Nature Reserve on the Belice river.
The territory of Etna
Accommodation Description
This beautiful location will be your last stopover on Mount Etna, Italy’s third most important wine-producing area. The volcano has become a small “Barolo” compared to the ‘Cote D’or’ of Burgundy because of the wine cultivation at high altitudes (up to 1500 meters above sea level). It produces wines similar to the best Burgundy Pinot Noir. Today Etna is considered the “Burgundy of the Mediterranean.”
Cooking classes are also available, and we highly recommend saving some time for relaxation on this lovely boutique farm.
To see nearby
- Catania, Acireale, Mount Etna.
